Imaginary Landscapes: Metaphysical Images by Kristina Kinkela Valčić

(Exhibition IMAGINARY LANDSCAPES held in Split, Hotel Ambasador

from March 1st to March 31st, 2024)

The perception of landscape as an aesthetic category in visual arts is deeply rooted in the philosophy of Immanuel Kant. Kant argued that experiencing nature, including landscapes, can evoke a sense of awe and pleasure in the viewer. In the 20th century, the concept of landscape evolved beyond its traditional definition. Today, the notion of landscape transcends static and visual representation, transforming into a multi-layered concept that encompasses not only the visual aspects of a place but also its social, emotional, and sensory dimensions. It has become an active and collaborative discourse capable of evoking profound experiences and connections between people and their states and environments.

Kristina Kinkela Valčić is a promising artist who, despite her youth, has shown exceptional expertise in abstract expressionism. The exhibition IMAGINARY LANDSCAPES, held in Split in March 2024, showcases the uniqueness of her artistic style, expressed in a delicate balance and deep exploration of the inner workings of the painting, inviting the viewer to delve into the depths of their subconscious.

In her paintings, the landscape becomes a field of force that pours into a multiplicity of intensities, exposed to layers of internal order that can convey impressions and sensations in a Deleuzian sense: "The task of painting is an attempt to make visible forces that are not visible in themselves." Starting from the flat surface as the site of her exploration, Kristina Kinkela Valčić employs a combined technique to skillfully capture the essence of her inner emotional states and translate them into stunning artistic expressions. This juxtaposition of organic and abstract elements reflects the complex interaction between the natural and constructed aspects of our lives. By using various unconventional materials such as sawdust, stone dust, aluminum shards, and epoxy resin, she develops intricate and multi-layered, often monochromatic compositions that intertwine and harmonize, giving birth to each other to produce constantly changing landscapes.

Thus, sawdust represents the transient nature of memory, while stone dust symbolizes the solid foundation of our identities. Aluminium shards reflect the fragmented nature of our emotions, while epoxy resin binds everything together, representing the resilience and strength within us. Each layer of material is carefully applied, creating a sense of depth and texture that contributes to the overall richness of the composition. Her intuitive approach allows her to tap into her subconscious and let emotions guide the creative process, allowing them to shape the outcome of the artwork.

These landscapes, though not inspired by real places but left to the viewer's imagination, evoke deep emotions and allow them to experience the artwork in a personal and introspective way. The use of unconventional materials adds a tactile and sensory dimension to her reflections, encouraging the viewer to not only engage with the visual aspects of the artwork but also to explore its texture and physicality. Layering and reuniting materials create a sense of depth and dimensionality, inviting the viewer to delve into intricate details and discover hidden nuances within the composition.

Through her intuitive approach, the artist seeks to convey a sense of emotional depth, inviting viewers to connect with their inner landscapes and explore the depths of their own emotions. The absence of specific references allows for a universal and timeless interpretation, making the artwork a means to transcend the boundaries of the physical world and enter into the depths of human emotions and introspection.

The exhibition IMAGINARY LANDSCAPES by Kristina Kinkela Valčić is conceived as an expression of supreme elegance and contemplation by the artist. Instead of direct communication, the exhibition creates a language of new expressions that re-mythologize the expression of landscapes through the relationship of space-time and harmony-contrast.

PRVI POST: 2023.

Divan galerijski prostor i još bolja suradnja. Krajem Travnja, stigao je Maximilian. Razlog svemu.

Webshop ide čim ga sjajni Iteh sistemi osposobe. Ovog prosinca, u 2023.

Hvala 2023.

Više o webshopu, počecima, izložbama, stvaranju, promišljanju, izazovima, inspiraciji i nekim težim umjetničkim temama očekujte u nadolazećim mjesecima. Jako me veseli količina ideja koje želim realizirati.

Kristina Kinkela Valčić - Process of Creating Abstract Art Brings Feelings of Freedom And Heeling

Kristina was born in 1990, in Rijeka (Croatia). She currently lives in Opatija where she works as an interior designer. Still, Kristina invests every single moment of her free time in painting. When did the urge for visual arts start? How did your development journey go? I have been expressing myself artistically my entire life. Drawing, painting, making paper models was my favourite way of having fun in my childhood. I remember that I had my box with crayons in every house in my neighbourhood.
